CHARACTER INFORMATION

CHARACTER NAME: Crawford Stone
CANON: Original
TIMELINE: After rescuing his brother from jail (very early in his story)
AGE: 26

REFERENCE: Crawford hasn't exactly had it easy in his life. His father died when he was a baby, his mother was murdered when he was 8. He and his brother, Donavin, were raised by an abusive step father, Leon, until he was kicked out of the house at 18, forced to leave his younger brother behind. It was with the help of his only two friends, Dane and Jackie, that Crawford was able to scrape by. It didn't help matters that Leon, who had only been a local city official when he'd met Crawford's mother, was now a very influential senator. When Donavin was finally old enough to escape the house, they were able to find a way to hide from Leon, because unlike Crawford, Leon did not want Donavin to leave.

There were two problems, however. They were able to hide from someone with so much influence because Dane was able to use his boss's name and influence to make it happen with some falsified records and a few bribes. On the surface, Dane was just a security guard at a night club, but his boss was the head of the city's underground and was an ally of Leon's. The latter part, not even Dane knows.

The second problem was Donavin himself. In this world, special abilities are a common occurrence. Unknown to anyone else, Donavin has been able to read minds to some extent since he was young. However, Leon himself has the ability to dampen the powers of others, even though he is unaware of it. After getting away from Leon, Donavin's powers got much stronger and he didn't know how to turn them off. The psychological toll has led to some erratic behavior, fugue states, and passing out in places he probably shouldn't. Because of his behavior, he's been picked up more than a few times by the police. By sheer luck, the city's last decent cop has been able to step in before anyone realized who they have. But luck is running out.

Even though Crawford doesn't know about it, there's something even bigger at stake. The reason Leon wants to find Donavin, and why it's so dangerous that Dane used his boss's power to hide them, is that Donavin was a witness to his mother's murder. A murder perpetrated by Leon and planned by Dane's boss.

Additionally, like his brother, Crawford's own powers have been growing since escaping his step father's influence. But so far he's completely unaware of them.

PERSONALITY: On his good days, the best he will come off as indifferent, but just about anything can set him off. Most negative emotions become anger and his favorite solutions to problems involve a lot of yelling and violence. That isn't to say he isn't incapable of mirth or humor, it's just a bit more on the subtle side. Picking a fight is his preferred means of stress relief, but he targets those bigger and stronger than himself, even if he doesn't stand a chance. Yes, he will absolutely look at a transformer and insult them. He is a dirty fighter, a brawler, with little sense of 'honor' in a fight. He favors his fists, but will improvise weapons in a pinch. He is very much an 'act now, think later' sort, and rarely only gets to the thinking when it's much too late. He's someone who would rather charge head first into something rather than stressing over what could go wrong. Even if he ends up in way over his head, he doesn't get scared. He just fights harder. In fact, the only thing that genuinely scares Crawford is anything to do with his step father. That, and anything that could leave him vulnerable or someone getting close to him. But that's a different sort of thing.

This is made even worse by an almost non-existent sense of self preservation. He places absolutely no value on his own life, safety, or wellbeing. This is the result of all of the psychological damage done between losing both of his parents and having his support constantly taken away from him as a kid. No one cared about him, so he doesn’t care about himself. This is also why he engages in so much self destructive behavior, including the smoking. In his eyes, the only life that matters is that of his brother. And surviving so he can protect his brother is probably likely the only reason he’s still alive.

He has his soft spots, as well. He is extremely protective of those he considers friends--though they are few and far between. Above all else, he will protect his younger brother--even if it means sacrificing himself. Everything he is, everything he lives for, is ensuring his brother's safety. This leaves him few resources for himself, but he perseveres. Though not to the same degree, this protective behavior extends to anyone unable to protect themselves, doubly so if he considered that person a friend. Somewhere under that gruff, surly exterior, there’s something that resembles a decent guy.

Overall, he's a huge mess. He's built this super thick wall between himself and the rest of the world. The only parts of what's inside that others get to glimpse is that protective nature. An urge that stems from wanting to ensure vulnerable people will never have to deal with what he went through. He makes sure to push away anyone and everyone so they never find out what’s really under there. Even his two best friends that he’s known since high school don’t know what happened to him.

ABILITIES: As far as mundane human type abilities go, if this were D&D his constitution stat would be maxed out. His primary defense is just taking the hits and not getting knocked down.

For less mundane abilities, he doesn't know about his powers yet. But he is, for all intents and purposes, a telekinetic. He can push and pull various objects by sheer force of will. Because it's been quietly developing since he was a teenager, it's grown quite strong, but he has no control over it. Currently, his powers are shaped by his emotions, resulting in a lot of things cracking or breaking in his presence if he gets worked up, especially items of stone or glass.

(Reference purposes only, does not currently apply) Once he starts working on his abilities he will have an affinity for things made of stone or metal, finding them easier to manipulate. He will find it impossible to manipulate anything living, or through anything living. Meaning if he tried to pull up rocks through a patch of grass, he'd have a much harder time than ripping pipes out of the street. Additionally, his emotional state will continue to effect his powers. Things will still explode around him if he gets angry. Other strong emotions, especially fear, will make it incredibly difficult to use them at all. It's going to take a lot of work to not have his powers be an erratic mess.

PERSONAL EFFECTS: He has nothing of real note. Just the clothes on his back, his keys, his wallet, and his phone.

PRIZED POSSESSION: A slightly crumpled photo taken just a few days before his mom died. It depicts him, his mother, and his brother on a bright sunny day, during a visit to the zoo. He used to keep it as a memory as a kid until his stepfather tore it up.

CRAU PREMISE: N/A
